Sometimes city pavement just doesn’t cut it. You have to run through nature.

Or vegetables.

Next Saturday, March 26, you can dash past rows of rutabaga, tomato cages and fields of flowers at the Spring Picnic and 5K Garden Gallop at Johnson’s Backyard Garden.

The 5K run/walk, organized by Rogue Running, starts at 11 a.m. A kids run is also planned, and prizes will be given to random race participants.

Bring a picnic lunch, a blanket and drinks, and hang out afterward to hear live music by Doug Moreland and Bottom Dollar String Band. Frank Hot Dogs and Cold Beer will sell food from their trailer.

The 200-acre organic farm is located at 4008 River Road in Garfield, about 10 miles east of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Tickets are $10, and include entrance to the 5k Garden Gallop. Kids under 12 are free. Tickets are available at jbgorganic.com. Call 512-386-5273 or e-mail farm@jbgorganic.com for more information.
